From July 1 to 4, 2026, the University of Applied Arts Vienna will present exhibitions, graduation projects, and a wide range of artistic and academic projects. A multidisciplinary program builds on the works on display and demonstrates how the University of Applied Arts Vienna provides impetus to society across disciplinary boundaries.
For the Department of Painting and Animated Film, Lisa Slawitz and David Gruber are curating the exhibition “Pictoral Engine.” The works of the department’s class are conceived as a unified whole—the big picture, a broad perspective, a variety of perspectives. Originally autonomous images enter into a network of correspondences with one another and form a collective form. From the pictorial body as an event between body and medium to the class collective body as an intrinsically driven cosmos, the exhibition traces a frequency, a rhythm.
Three additional exhibitions, each curated by different students from the Department of Painting and Animated Film, showcase the potential of an expanded concept of painting and interdisciplinary working methods.
