A large part of Hannah Kerschner’s works are oil paintings on canvas. Furthermore, writing, photography, textile art and drawings are part of her artistic practice. In her painterly works she uses strong tones, clear-cut lines and a flat painting style.

Kerschner draws inspiration from cultural and socio-political phenomena that impact the lives and identities of individuals. Her main focus is on gender roles and everyday life from a queer and feminist perspective. She implements this in her artistic work by conceptualizing her female subjects in figurative works not as individuals, but as symbols for collectively conceived female living conditions. Kerschner addresses a range of human conditions, such as desire, satisfaction, boredom, sadness, trauma and being overwhelmed. A pattern in Kerschner’s works is that even in moments of emancipation, her subjects remain trapped in the socio-cultural constraints that they are immersed in.
